Rits Uji IB Students at US Debate Nationals

This summer, four Rits Uji IB students took part in the U.S. National Debate Tournament held in Birmingham, Alabama. The students qualified for the tournament the year prior at the finals of the National Forensics League of Japan held in Tokyo. The tournament was highly competitive with some of the best high school debaters from around the world attending. Rits Uji students debated the topic of aid to East Africa and spent weeks preparing for the event studying arguments on both sides of the topic. During the tournament, students have to be prepared to argue whichever side they are given based on a coin flip.

Debate is one of the many activities that Rits Uji IB students participate in outside of school to build their communication and social skills. In August of this year six more juniors qualified for the 2018 U.S. tournament which will be held in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
