Rits Online Cafeを開催しました!

On Friday, November 13th a group of Sustainable Development Goals Studies II students in the third year hosted the “Online Rits Cafe” with a group of 13 students from the United Arab Emirates. Reiya Nakagawa, Jua Fujieda and Shise Ibaraki organized this meeting to spread Japanese language and culture to students in the UAE who wanted to visit Japan but could not due to the global COVID pandemic. These students gathered in the 3-8 homeroom with another 13 students from the IG and IM courses and introduced our school to their friends then the students from a variety of schools in the UAE introduced their schools and cultures, using very good Japanese as well. The students enjoyed learning and teaching new friends from 8000 km away. Then the students were sent to breakout rooms to discuss topics such as cultural differences such as co-educational and single-gender schools, how English education differs in the two countries and others. Our students were very surprised at the high level of Japanese spoken by their friends.

The SDG studies students would like to thank Saya Auel, the host of “Online Cafe Saya” where our students were first introduced to the group from the UAE.

The project was focused on goal number 4, quality education, as they felt that students should not be denied a chance to improve their Japanese just because travel was impossible. They would like to meet with their friends again soon.
