On August 30th, nineteen Ritsumeikan Uji students from the IM and IG courses, participated in the final voting meeting for the 30th annual Kansai Model United Nations, hosted by Kyoto Gaidai Nishi High School.

Ritsumeikan Uji was one of ten high schools from the Kansai region to participate in the event this year, which included over 240 students. This year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the event was hosted online for the first time ever. Students represented different countries and created solutions for the conference topics, plastic and food waste, from the perspective of their country. Students then negotiated and debated with participants from other schools through online chat, recorded video speeches, and virtual meetings, to create a draft resolution for these issues that multiple countries would support. The meeting on the 30th was to vote on amendments to the draft resolutions, and to vote on the final resolutions. Even though this year's event was held in a different format to previous years, the students found the experience valuable and learned a lot of new information about their country and the skills of negotiation and debate.

The next MUN scheduled for Ritsumeikan Uji students will be the Ritsumeikan Uji MUN, which will be hosted online December 14-16, 2020.
